This bill provides an insurance pool for paid family and medical leave for NH families. NH Women’s Foundation emailed and asked for our help.
We made calls about this bill last year. It was retained in committee. The good news is the bill has been revived. Here’s what you can do to help.
The next step for the bill, is a House Labor Committee vote on Tuesday. If you could please take a minute or two and email members of the committee, or call.
Key talking points:
1. New Hampshire needs a strong workforce to keep our economy growing. Caregiving duties are one of the biggest barriers keeping qualified workers out of our labor market. HB 628 is an investment in our workforce and our economy.
2. Access to paid family leave helps aging workers stay in the workforce, increases the odds for people trying to recover from substance use disorders, and leads to higher workforce participation among new parents.
3. HB 628 has strong bipartisan support. 82 percent of New Hampshire residents support establishment of this program, and 69 percent said they would be willing to pay $5 per week to have this benefit.
4. 90 percent of employers in states with similar programs reported a “positive effect” or “no noticeable effect” on productivity, performance, and profitability.
